League of Legends: the number of champions
Do you know how the amount of champions in League of Legends or LoL? There are 150 of them as of August 2020! LoL started with just 40 champions back in 2009. Not only new champions are being added, but also older champions are also being reintroduced with tweaks in them here and there. You can obtain these champions by unlocking them using the currency that is being used in the game, but few of them are available for free for some time.
How Classification of the Champions is done in League of Legends?
The classification of the Champions in LoL is done in number of ways. The classification is essentially done based on the damage it can cause. Champions do the damage by two major ways – physical and magical. Some champions can do the damage both ways. There are Champions who can cause damage which can’t be withstood by the armor nor magic resistance of the opponent!
The different Classification in League of Legends
There are six broad classes of champions – Marksman, Tank, Fighter, Slayer, Mage, and Controller.
There are no thick lines around all the champions that make them fit into the classification, but most do fit in well.
What can Marksmen do in League of Legends and how many are there
Well, Marksmen are essentially ranged champions. They are also called “AD Carries” (AD stands for Attack Damage). They are designed to keep physical damage in mind. The flipside of these champions is that they have weak defense mechanisms. However, the damage they cause is substantial to the extent of exponential in type.
There are 24 League of Legends champions that are marksmen and they are:
- Miss Fortune
Are Tanks any better option than Marksmen in League of Legends and how many of them are there
In contrast to Marksmen these have substantial defensive mechanism and it is quite hard to get these down. They can very well absorb enemy blows for the team they are playing for. But unlike Marksmen they do not cause that much of a damage at least not exponential. Even these Tanks have two types – Vanguards and Wardens. Vanguards charge into fights first and Wardens remain at the back protecting allies from enemy fire.
There are around 27 tank champions in League of Legends and they are:
- Nunu & Willump
- Rammus Sejuani
- Tahm Kench
Do Fighters fill in the gaps well and what are there numbers
Fighters are a blend of Mages and Tanks and these have one of the finest combinations of respectable damage and defenses. Fighters are further classified into two major categories – Juggernauts and Divers. Juggernauts have extremely well survivability and can take shots rather well. But they are slightly on the poor side of the story when it comes to mobility. Divers on the other hand have great Target Selection but slightly less defensive.
There are 34 Fighters in all and they are:
- Jarvan IV
- Lee Sin
- Xin Zhao
Can Slayers kill other Champions and in what numbers are they present in total
Yes these specialise in killing the champions of the opponent and are exceptional at mobility and are therefore slightly lightweight and if caught can go down as these have weak defensive. They generally kill the champion of the opponent from a close range.
They are 20 in numbers and they are:
- Master Yi
What is covered by Mages and there count please
AP Carries ( AP stands for Ability Power) is what it is also known as. Champions of the Mage types stand apart from Marksmen by having this huge magic damage and controlling powers. On the flip side, they have low mobility. One more problem with them is that they have low defenses as well. But their range is pretty effective and they can kill from far away. They can even destroy other champions. The specialty Mages is that they can have multiple targets. Some of them can survive when surrounded.
There are 43 of them
- Aurelion Sol
- Twisted Fate
Finally, Controllers come into the picture and they must be awesome and what would be their count
Essentially they have a Supportive role. That is why they are also called “Support”. These champions can do a lot of things which are required in the battlefield. For example, they can heal, they can aid the allies by buffing them. They can even debuff enemies. Single targets can be taken down by them. Also you can have a combination of the above mentioned properties. Supports are generally involved to watchover surprise enemy movements and help the team neutralize it in time.
They are 18 in numbers:
